Forklift Components in More Detail
There are many parts which make up a forklift. The forklifts major parts consist of the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. What's more, a forklift has different types of attachments. All the components which make up a lift truck are all essential because they work together to make the equipment's operation possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe a few of the forklift parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the equipment operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would damage the controls inside the cab or harm the operator. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on several units.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move upwards and down. The interlocking rails can either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast can be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and various other types of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To allow the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage could have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack that keeps a load from falling backwards while the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are many attachments that can be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. Also, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, pole handlers, roll clamps and so forth. These different types of attachments are useful for transporting different kinds of loads.
