A container forklift is specially designed to unload and load large, heavy freight containers. They are used to transport freight off and on ships, truck beds and trains. Container forklifts are the most durable and largest types of forklifts made. They need to be very maneuverable on uneven terrain and have enough power and torque to safely lift bulky containers. They typically have big pneumatic tires and heavy-duty diesel engines.

A container forklift, like all types of forklift, utilizes forks to be able to raise the containers. Forks must be positioned to make sure the load is secure during transport.
