The Carriage
The carriage is like a conventional forklift because the lifting attachment can be tilted backwards and forwards from its horizontal. The tilt which is possible on this equipment exceeds more than that of the vertical masts. There is a large variety of lifting attachments available, and this ability to position makes them as effective as possible.
Most telehandlers have the capability of tilting to a position that is actually parallel to the ground. Some models have rotating carriages too. This allows the operator to radially adjust the lifting attachment. This translates to the load being able of being tilted forwards and backwards, as well as side to side.
Load Capacity
Figuring out the load capacity of a telehandler is a a lot different exercise than it is on a vertical mast unit. The capacity of the unit is totally dependent on such things like: boom angle and extension, whether the unit is lifting on outriggers or on rubber tires, and the amount of boom transaction deployed, if this is applicable. As well, which lifting attachment plays a very important part, as does the wind, the grade the machine is operating on and so on. All of these specifics could be changing regularly and this gives the operator a lot more information to think about.
Usually, telehandlers have some load charts available in order for the operator to reference so they can determine the load capacity of a particular lift. Depending upon the configuration of the boom and the unit in particular, the load capacity can differ by thousands of pounds all together.
