The forklift is a material handling equipment used to lift and transport loads from one place to another. Each forklift part has a particular function. Various components can be used to transport the load vertically or horizontally.

Mast
The components utilized to lower and lift the load is known as the forklift mast. There are various kinds of masts for raising loads to various heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.

Power Supply
There are four different ways you can power a forklift: electric, gas, diesel and propane. The battery is situated inside the cab under the seat. The propane tank is located on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is under the rear of the truck.

Cab
Located in the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all located in the cab.

Frame
The truck frame carries all the largest components of the forklift, including the counterweights, that are situated at the back to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
